
The Government of India has made it compulsory for everyone having a PAN card to link it to the Aadhaar card. So what is an aadhaar card? It is like the identity card of every Indian. It has a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India, on behalf of the Government of India. Aadhaar has the biometric information of every individual. An individual can have only one Aadhaar card. And ownership of more than one card is strictly prohibited by the Indian government. Also, an aadhaar card does not replace other identity cards.
What is a PAN card? PAN (Permanent Account Number) is an identification number assigned to all taxpayers in India. It is a 10 digit alphanumeric number. There are different types of PAN cards. For individuals, companies, firms, societies and others.
The government of India has made it compulsory to link both cards. The last date to link the Aadhaar card to the PAN card is 30th September 2021. Previously it was 30th March 2021 and now the date is extended. It is said that the PAN cards that are not linked to the Aadhaar cards will be discarded by the government. In other words, the PAN card will not be valid. You might face issues o carry out financial transactions where a PAN card is mandatory. Also, the government will impose a fine.
How to link PAN to Aadhar on the Income Tax New Portal?
It is a very simple process. Just follow the below-mentioned steps:
Step 1:
Open the new e-Filing 2.0, Income-tax Department, Government of India website from https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/

Step 2:
Scroll Down and then you will find many options. Under the “Our Services” option, click on Link Aadhaar.

Step 3:
After clicking on the Link Aadhaar option, the following page will open up. On this page, you will have to add the following details. First of all 10 alphanumeric characters PAN number. Followed by the aadhaar number. Also, the name as per the aadhaar card. You need to enter your mobile number as OTP will be sent to the number.
Some people have only the year of birth on the aadhaar card (Not DD/MM/YYYY), in such case you need to select the option “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card”. Else leave it blank. Next, click the option “I agree to validate my Aadhaar details”. Then the option on the right-hand side “Link Aadhaar” will be highlighted. Click on it.

Step 4:
On the next page, you will be asked to enter the 6 digit OTP. It will be sent on the mobile number that you entered in the previous step. Once you enter the OTP, click on “Validate”. And that’s it. It’s that simple to link your aadhaar card to your PAN card.
